 ABOUT ANTONIO

Antonio Tarrell is a Mississippi-born documentary filmmaker, cinematographer, and director of photography whose work is rooted in Southern vérité storytelling. Raised in Bruce, Mississippi, he brings an intimate understanding of place, history, and community to films that center lived experience over narration. His approach is observational and character-driven, capturing real moments as they unfold with a cinematic precision that is both grounded and immersive.

Working across producing, directing, and cinematography, Tarrell has built a body of work that explores themes of justice, memory, and social change through a distinctly Southern lens. His recent projects—including Cole: Bridge to Justice, Caravan of Hope, We Were Here: A Journey Through Memory, and Voices of Mississippi—reflect a commitment to uncovering stories often overlooked in traditional historical narratives. Earlier works such as (I’m Not) Your Negroni, Sites of Memory, and Moving Spirit II further demonstrate his ability to translate complex cultural conversations into visually compelling, human-centered films.

Through Antonio Tarrell Films, he has also contributed to national and international productions with networks including NHK, Fox Business, and PBS, bringing his vérité sensibility to broader audiences. Across all formats, Tarrell’s work is defined by its authenticity, visual discipline, and emotional depth—positioning him as a distinctive voice in contemporary documentary filmmaking and a leading storyteller of the modern American South.
